In her portraits Debora Makkus wishes to dig beneath the surface. The sitters strength and vulnerability are an important source of inspiration in her work. She loves to paint ‘timeless’ portraits with exceptional lighting, inspired by old masters.

 

In 2009 Debora Makkus had the honour of painting the portrait of Euro Commissioner Neelie Kroes in the Dutch version of BBC’s ‘Star portrait’.
